Innovative Treatment for the Debilitating Condition of Neuropathy.

Living with Neuropathy?

Peripheral Neuropathy is a multi-dimensional disorder that often occurs as the result of damage to both the blood vessels and nerves that supply the feet, legs, hands and arms. When the damage occurs, the affected nerves begin to misfire, like a short-circuiting wire.

According to the National Institute of Health, there are over 24 million Americans experiencing the painful side effects of neuropathy. Symptoms typically start in the toes and work their way up into the foot and leg but can also spread to other areas of your body such as your hands, arms, and trunk.

Neuropathy generally starts with one symptom, such as numbness or balance problems. Because it is a progressive and degenerative condition, eventually the patient with Neuropathy suffers from most or all the symptoms and their quality of life is significantly reduced.
If you are now suffering from Peripheral Neuropathy, you are not alone. There are over 100 causes of Peripheral Neuropathy. Diabetes is the #1 cause of Neuropathy, accounting for approximately 30% of all Peripheral Neuropathy cases. Other causes include the following: complications from surgery, trauma, chemotherapy, pre-diabetes, circulatory issues, autoimmune disorders, and many more.

Traditional Medical Approach to Neuropathy

Traditional medical treatment for Peripheral Neuropathy involves anti-seizure medications, including Gabapentin, pregabalin, and amitriptyline. If those medications do not work, often other medications will be added to help with symptom management including anti-depressants and/or pain medications. Although these medications can sometimes take the “edge” off the pain, they are only used to help decrease the symptoms versus address the underlying cause of the pain. With the progression of Neuropathy, many patients are on a host of medications at much higher doses and still not receiving the relief of the symptoms they desire. Sadly, each of these medications also carry with them significant side effects – including fatigue, brain fog, and even can contribute to MORE pain.
Other medical treatment options when medications do not work effectively to reduce pain could include a procedure implanting a device called a spinal stimulator. A spinal stimulator is similar to a TENS unit that is typically implanted into the area of the hip with leads that attach to the nerves exiting in the spine and supply those nerves with an electrical current. For some patients, this will reduce the pain signal and provide some relief of symptoms – although this is still only addressing the symptoms and the condition continues to worsen. Another option could also include surgeries to either cut the nerve(s) to a region of the foot or toes, or even amputate the toe(s), foot, or leg. Even with these aggressive treatment options, patients often still experience the pain.
These medications and procedures are used to decrease symptoms, but they do nothing to correct the progressive and degenerative condition of Neuropathy.

Why Patients Choose Balance Wellspace - For Pain Relief

Balance Wellspace has adopted a unique approach to addressing Peripheral Neuropathy:

1) Increase the blood flow to your limbs and heal the nerves.

2) Electrical stimulation to rehabilitate the nerves.

3) Improve the nutrition and lifestyle of the patient with an emphasis on reducing inflammation.

In more advanced cases, it is sometimes necessary to incorporate regenerative medicine. These products can be used to initiate cellular growth in areas on the foot, legs, and hands when the body is unable to repair these tissues on its own.

Tools to Accelerate Healing

After years frustrated that her patients were not getting the relief she so wanted to provide, Dr. Jennifer Walker dedicating herself to finding a better alternative for her patients suffering with Peripheral Neuropathy. It was during this time she searched high and low and found the amazing tools that Balance Wellspace now uses to successfully treat neuropathy.

Low-Level Light Therapy

The first tool used is called Low-Level Light Therapy. This treatment was initially researched, tested, and developed by NASA, and was later approved by the FDA. When a group of visionaries in the medical community discovered the effects of Low-Level Light Therapy, they began using it with patients and getting incredible results, without the use of drugs and surgery. Low-Level Light Therapy consists of LED light pads that when absorbed 2-3 cm into tissues causes vasodilation (increased blood circulation in the blood vessels). The effect is decreased inflammation, stimulated nerve growth, and increased nerve production.

Sanexas Horizontal Therapy

The neoGEN® system is a state-of-the art, technically-innovative medical device for producing electric cell signaling energy waves (EcST and ESI).

The system is used to successfully treat circulatory issues, all types of acute and chronic pain, long-term (intractable) pain and drug-resistant pain. The neoGEN® also offers specific parameter signaling for efficient neuromuscular reeducation, muscle strengthening, and relaxation of muscle spasm activity.

The RST-Sanexas neoGEN® medical device is the original and only electric cell signaling device that was used in clinical research, published in multiple medical journals proving the ability to effect nerves and reduce painful symptoms associated with peripheral neuropathy.

More than 30 published medical reports are available covering painful neuropathic conditions, and muscular neuromuscular reeducation. RST-Sanexas neoGEN® system is safe, effective, and user-friendly.
Sanexas machines are the “gold standard” therapy for treating neuropathy pain. These machines function by producing an extremely high frequency of electrical impulses that are converted by biochemical reactions in the body’s tissues resulting in a reduction of overall discomfort and nerves are stimulated to regrow.

Extracorporeal Pulsed Activation Therapy(EPAT) (Shockwave Therapy)

Shockwave Therapy is a non-invasive modern and highly effective treatment method: high-energy sound waves are introduced into the painful areas of the body. EPAT technology accelerates the healing process in the body by stimulating the metabolism and enhancing blood circulation to regenerate damaged tissue. Strong energy pulses are applied to the affected area. These pulses occur for short periods of time, creating micro-cavitation bubbles that expand and burst. The force created by these bubbles penetrates tissue and stimulates cells in the body that are responsible for bone and connective tissue healing. Shockwave therapy accelerates the healing in patients with nerve conditions or tissue damage by addressing any adhesions/scar tissue present in the area, increasing blood flow to the extremities, stimulating tissue cell and nerve growth, and decreasing inflammation.

Human Cellular Tissue Product (HCTP) Injections

When patients present with a very severe case of peripheral neuropathy, portions of Balance Wellspace’s Regenerative Medicine program can be utilized. Specifically, human cellular tissue allografts containing mesenchymal stromal cells can be used to initiate cellular growth in areas on the foot, legs, and hands when the body is unable to repair these tissues on its own.

Physical Rehabilitation

Many patients experiencing symptoms of Neuropathy have significant issues with balance and coordination. Given the risk of falling is increased when these symptoms are present, addressing balance and lower extremity strength are especially important in this population.

Vibration is one of the tools used in Physical Rehabilitation to help increase circulation, but also assist in reconnecting important neurological pathways to stabilize the patient.
